Your data is not used to train any AI model.

When Swaram's AI assistant responds to your WhatsApp messages, your conversations are processed to generate a reply — and nothing more. Anthropic (the company that builds the AI we use) does not use API customer data to train its models. Your conversations are not fed back into any AI training pipeline, by Swaram or by Anthropic.

1 Which AI Powers Swaram?

Swaram uses Claude, an AI assistant built by Anthropic PBC (San Francisco, USA). Claude is one of the most capable and safety-focused AI systems available. We use it exclusively via Anthropic's commercial API — not through any consumer product.

Why Claude? Anthropic is the only major AI lab that publishes a public Constitutional AI framework and has explicit commercial API data-use policies that protect customer data from being used in training. This was a deliberate choice when we built Swaram.

2 How Your Conversation Flows Through AI

Here is exactly what happens when you send a WhatsApp message to a Swaram-powered business:

Your message text is transmitted to Anthropic's servers (located in the USA) to generate the AI response. This transmission is encrypted end-to-end using TLS 1.3. Anthropic processes your message in real-time to produce a response — it does not store your messages beyond what is necessary for that single API call.

Swaram stores the conversation in our own database (hosted on Railway in the USA) so that the AI can maintain context across your conversation with the business, and so the business owner can view their lead history in the Swaram dashboard.

3 Does Anthropic Train on My Data?

No. Anthropic's commercial API terms explicitly prohibit using API customer inputs and outputs for model training without prior authorisation. Swaram accesses Claude exclusively through the commercial API, which means your conversation data is subject to these protections.

Source: Anthropic's Usage Policy (effective September 2025) — "Utilization of inputs and outputs to train an AI model without prior authorization from Anthropic" is a prohibited use. This prohibition applies equally to Anthropic itself when processing API customer data.

This is fundamentally different from consumer AI products (like free chatbots) where your conversations may be used to improve the AI. When you interact with Swaram, your data stays out of any training pipeline.

4 What We Store vs. What We Don't

5 Is the AI Making Decisions About Me?

Swaram's AI assistant handles two types of tasks: answering your questions about the business's products and services, and collecting information to help the business understand your requirements (such as what kind of solar system you're looking for, and when you'd like a site survey).

The AI does not make any final decisions about you. It does not approve or reject your enquiry, set a price, or determine whether you are a customer. All decisions about pricing, scheduling, and service delivery are made by the human business owner, who reviews your conversation in their dashboard.

The Swaram AI is a front-office assistant — it gathers information and passes it to a human. A human always makes the final call.

6 Data Retention & the DPDP Act

Swaram is designed to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Our data retention commitments:

  • Conversation messages: retained for 12 months from last interaction
  • Lead and contact records: retained for 24 months or until deletion request
  • Consent records: retained for 36 months (legal compliance requirement)
  • After the retention period, data is automatically and permanently deleted

You can request deletion of all your data at any time by replying STOP to any message from a Swaram-powered number, or by emailing hello@swaram.in. Deletion is completed within 24 hours.

7 Cross-Border Data Transfer

Swaram is an Indian product, but our infrastructure and AI provider are currently hosted outside India:

  • Swaram servers — Railway platform (USA). Your conversation data is stored here.
  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — Anthropic PBC (USA). Your message text is sent here to generate AI responses, then not retained beyond the API call.
  • Meta (WhatsApp) — Message delivery via Meta's global infrastructure.

We are planning to migrate primary data storage to AWS Mumbai (India) as part of our general availability roadmap. We will update this page when that migration is complete.

All data transfers are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3). We rely on standard contractual clauses and vendor data processing agreements to ensure adequate protection of your data in cross-border transfers.

8 Our AI Safety Commitments

Swaram's AI assistant is configured with the following guardrails:

  • The AI identifies itself as an AI assistant at the start of every conversation — it will never claim to be a human
  • The AI will not provide medical, legal, or financial advice — it will always refer you to the appropriate professional
  • The AI only discusses topics relevant to the business you contacted — it cannot be repurposed for unrelated tasks
  • All AI outputs are generated fresh for each conversation — the AI does not learn or remember anything from previous interactions with other users
  • The AI's knowledge of your business is strictly limited to information the business owner has explicitly configured — it will say "I don't know" rather than guess
